Is Acupuncture Effective for back pain relief and neck pain relief?

Throughout the world more people have been successfully treated for back pain relief and neck pain relief with acupuncture more than with all other types of health treatments combined. This form of back pain relief and neck pain relief therapy is now the fastest growing method of alternative care and is commonly practiced in Europe, Asia, and now in North America.

Acupuncture back pain relief and neck pain relief treatments can be delivered in conjunction with more conventional treatments that are practiced with Western medicine, osteopathic or chiropractic adjustments, and homeopathic or naturopathic prescriptions. You will want to make sure and inform your treating physician of the complete care you are receiving to derive the best benefit.

  • Are The Needles Painful?

All patients perceive pain differently. Usually, patients seeking back pain relief or neck pain relief  through acupuncture report only minimal pain as the needles are inserted. Some feel no pain at all. The actual sensation of pain, if any, is during the insertion of the needles. Once the needles are in place, there is no pain felt.

  • What Are The Needles Like?

The point of the acupuncture needle is smooth and insertion into the skin is very different and much less painful than typical injection and blood sampling needles. Acupuncture needles are very thin and solid and are made from stainless steel. The risk of bruising and skin irritation during the back pain relief or neck pain relief treatment is less than when using a hollow needle.
There is no risk of infection due to the sterility and disposability of the needles.

  • What Are the "Do's and Don'ts"
On The Day of Back Pain Relief or Neck Pain Relief Treatment

In order to maximize the back pain relief and neck pain relief benefits of acupuncture you should follow these guidelines:

Do not over eat immediately before or after treatment. Refrain from over exertion during the 6 hours before and after your back pain relief and neck pain relief treatment. Plan to can get some rest, or at least not have to be working at top performance during the next several hours after the treatment. This is especially important for the first few visits. Continue to take any prescription medicines as directed by your regular doctor. Substance abuse (drugs and alcohol), will seriously interfere with the effectiveness of acupuncture treatments. Remember to keep good mental or written notes of what your response is to the treatment. This is important for your doctor to know so that the follow-up treatments can be designed to best help you and your problem.

  • Is Acupuncture Back Pain Relief And Neck Pain
    Relief Covered By Health Insurance?

Some insurance companies currently cover acupuncture costs for back pain relief and neck pain relief, other companies do not yet recognize the value of acupuncture. You should carefully review your policy to determine acupuncture benefits.

The AAMA is working to inform insurance companies and the public in order to standardize payment practices and accessibility to this type of back pain relief and neck pain relief treatment. You can help by requesting that your employer and insurance company seriously consider offering coverage and reimbursement for medically indicated acupuncture treatments.
